Met Gala 2014: Top 13 Looks

Last night marked the 2014 Met Gala. The Met Gala (Met Ball) is an annual event fundraising benefit that donates to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. It is also an opening celebration for the institute's annual fashion exhibit. How do I get invited you ask? Think twice. The event is one of the most exclusive social events in New York City. It mirrors and rivals California's Vanity Fair which is said to have more "star power" but less fashionistas. I would call it the Oscars for fashion!

The event hosts a great mixture of people from the arts, fashion and entertainment businesses, where they showcase their designer looks, enjoy a cocktail hour and a formal dinner. Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour is in charge of the whole event (since 1995); down to the guest list and the theme.  The event has been going on since 1971 and is said to be the most extravagant event for fashion every year. This night raises the most money; last year in 2013 bringing in about 9 million dollars. Every year there is a new theme that the stars come dressed up in. Not always does everyone follow the theme, but for those who do it is absolutely thrilling!

The theme this year was based upon British designer Charles James who is known to be "America's first Couturier." James is the master of cutting and highly structured aesthetic.

Below I have listed my top 13 Picks but first starting off with my Top 3 picks of the night!

TOP 3
(From left to right)

1. Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta: Sarah Jessica parker has got to be taking tips from the costume designers of Sex and the City because this outfit has Carrie Bradshaw written all over it! This look was a great rendition of Charles James dress (shown in previous pic). This woman always knows how to rock the theme to the fullest and look gorgeous in doing so!

2. Liu Wen in Zac Posen: Besides doing the theme perfectly, designer Zac Posen (whom I've met :) does this dress justice!! It looks flawless on super model Liu Wen. Charles James would be so proud! just stunning!

3.  Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa: Kurkova looks flawless in this Marchesa gown. The tiered gown looks as though it has a white hand painted floral design. Love the gown and the diamond necklace to match!

  1. Awesome! I had no idea what the theme this year was, so thanks for sharing! Some stars seemed to have stuck to the theme, but I noticed a lot of them kind of did their own thing. I posted my top 5 picks as well! Check it out here: http://www.in-betweenlife.com/2014/05/top-5-best-dressed-met-gala-2014.html
